Michael Owen's second competitive England goal was against Argentina in 1998.
Record breaker
By David Barber. Friday, 08 June 2007.
Michael Owen's goal in Estonia on Wednesday was his 23rd goal for England in competitive internationals, breaking a record that he had previously shared with Gary Lineker.
Owen's goals for his country now total 37. He lies fourth in the all-time list - behind Sir Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48) and Jimmy Greaves (44).
The Newcastle United striker was injured during England's match with Sweden in the 2006 World Cup Finals last summer and missed nearly all of the following season. His goal in Tallinn was actually his first for England for 368 days.
Owen's next chance to add to that tally comes against Israel at Wembley on 8 September.
