90+3

Markus Merk blows for full-time, England were so close to their first win over Brazil in 17 years, but were denied by Diego's late strike.

90+2

GOAL! With time running out, Gilberto Silva sends in an inswinger from the left to find substitute Diego on the penalty. His header was far from clean, but it was good enough to take it out of the reach of Robinson and sneak inside the post.

88' Frank Lampard goes off, Michael Carrick comes on for his second appearance at the new Stadium

83' After an 83 minute run out, his first action for England since the World Cup, Michael Owen is replaced by Liverpool's Peter Crouch.

80

Another Ronaldinho free-kick strikes the wall and goes out for a corner. Afonso almost profits from the delivery at the far post - his header goes over.

77' The crowd get to their feet once more as David Beckham goes off. Jermaine Jenas replaces him

74' Another Brazilian alteration with Robinho going off and Diego coming on

73

Afonso, only on the field a couple of minutes, almost draws Brazil level, but his toe poke under Robinson dribbles just wide.

72' Steve McClaren takes off England's goalscoring captain, John Terry, to a standing ovation. On comes Wes Brown, Carragher moves into the middle of the back alongside King.

71' Kaka leaves the field as Brazil make another change. On comes Afonso for his debut for the Samba Boys

68

GOAL! David Beckham delivers in a teasing free-kick from the right hand side. Captain John Terry, scorer of the first goal under Steve McClaren, becomes England's first scorer at the new Wembley arriving at the back post to finish with a powerful header beyond Helton.

65' Another Brazilian substitute. Daniel Alves leaves the field and is replace by Maicon.

64

Only just on the field, but Downing gets into the swing of things cracking an effort from distance to test Helton. The Brazilian can only tip it over the bar for a corner.

63

Beckham's free-kick hits the wall.

62' As David Beckham prepares to take the free-kick 30-yards away from goal, England make two changes. Off goes Alan Smith and Joe Cole, on comes Kieron Dyer and Stewart Downing. Brazil also make a sub, Mineiro off, Edmilson on.

61

Owen is fouled on the edge of the box

58

Carragher brings down Robinho in an interesting area for Ronaldinho, but the Barca man's free-kick hits the way

57

Gilberto fouls Carragher on the right and from Beckham's dangerous cross, Owen connects, but the ball loops agonisingly over the bar and on to the roof of the net.

52

Kaka takes his turn to trouble Robinson with a driven shot from outside the area, the England keeper is sprawling but the effort is just wide.

49

Ronaldinho fires a powerful shot towards goal and despite a deflection deviating the angle of the shot, Robinson pulls off a tremendous save.

47

Brazil continue to enjoy quick possession between the key dangermen in midfield, with Ronaldinho exciting the crowd with a backheeled pass.

The second half is underway with no changes to either team.

45

Referee Markus Merk blows for half-time

34

Ronaldinho gets the better of Gerrard as the Liverpool skipper slips. He feeds into Vagner Love who goes down easily under pressure from King in a danger zone 20-yards out. Ronaldinho's free-kick looks good but goes wide of Robinson's left hand post.

28

The balance and poise of Kaka sees him lose two England defenders and as he prepared to pull the trigger 25-yards out, the crowd too a breath. Steven Gerrard didn't as he slid in with an impeccable challenge to dispossess his Champions League Final rival.

29

Mineiro trips Gerrard on the edge of the box and the crowd gets to their feet in anticipation of a Beckham special. The number seven almost delivers beating Helton with an out-swinger at his far post, but the ball just drops wide.

21

Ledley King, playing in his first England game since March 2006, takes a Robinho effort in the midriff on the edge of the box. Corner.

20

Gilberto Silva has the ball in the net, with a well-placed header at the far post, but the flag had long been up.

18

Joe Cole has England's first shot, bringing down a clearance from a deep Beckham free-kick and trying a long range effort. Easy for Helton on the Brazil goal.

13

Six step-overs from Robinho gets him nearer to the England box, but not past Carragher. His final shot is weak and wide.

12

David Beckham has his first chance to pick a pass out, and almost finds Michael Owen'sdiagonal run across the edge of the box, but it's a tad to fast for Owen

11

Trademark Ronaldinho 'no look' pass into the feet of Vagner Love.

3

After England clear a Ronaldinho free-kick, Joe Cole is released on a run down the middle of the field, that's until Gilberto Silva cynically fouls the Chelea man.

Ronaldinho kicks off for Brazil in the first England game at the new Wembley Stadium after a packed crowd gave an immaculate minute's applause for England legend Alan Ball, who died in April.
