Micheal Dawson is hoping to impress Steve McClaren this week and force his way into the England squad for the vital European Championship qualifier against Estonia.

Dawson has been rewarded for his superb performances for Tottenham this season with a call-up into the England B party which faces Albania at Burnley's Turf Moor on Friday.

The former Nottingham Forest defender has been forced to marshal the Tottenham defence for the majority of the season with fellow England defender Ledley King missing a large chunk of the campaign through injury.

And he is now hoping he can transform his superb club form onto the international stage and show he can become a regular in the senior squad.

Dawson, who has won 13 England under-21 caps, said: "This season has been great for me. I'm pleased with my contribution this year - I've got to be and have been rewarded with a new contract.

"I've played many games and the team has finished fifth and overall it's been a good season. I have a week off and then I will join the England squad for training. Hopefully I'll play in the game.

"I hope this is a sign that I am on the way up and I like to be involved and play whenever I can. The top players always play a lot of games.

"If I don't get a long time off because I'm playing international football then that's great. I'm taking it one step at a time. I will go away with the B team and see what happens. I'm not tired, I get my rest and I look after myself.

"I have to be realistic. The Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea players are not in the B team and I'm sure they will all come back in for the full England games. But fingers crossed I will still be in the squad."
