VIDEO: England visit a local hospital
Steve McClaren, Paul Robinson and John Terry visit the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in Pendlebury.

England Head Coach Steve McClaren took time out from training on Thursday to visit a local hospital and do his best to raise the spirits of children awaiting operations.

McClaren yesterday led an FA delegation, including John Terry and Paul Robinson, to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in Pendlebury, where they distributed goody bags in the neurological and renal wards.

"There is a good side of football," McClaren said, "and we’ve seen that here today."

McClaren went on to emphasize just how much these visits mean to the players.

He said: "It's great to come into a place like this, normally we go around schools and we talk to healthy children. But coming into a hospital really brings reality back to everybody's lives.

"To give something to the kids in the community, especially in hospitals, is very, very rewarding for all of us.

"I think we underestimate how much we do in appearances in football and what they give to a community. But when you meet kids at close hand like we have today, then it really does bring home what you can do and the difference you can make."
