Nationwide England Player of the Weekend
Frank Lampard has taken the prize of Nationwide England Player of the Weekend following his match-winning performance for Chelsea at local rivals Fulham.
The Three Lions midfielder scored an emphatic brace at Craven Cottage, both goals coming with just 15 minutes left on the clock, the first goal of which was a penalty following a handball by Liam Rosenior.
Frank then added a deserved second seven minutes later to wrap up the victory, displaying his natural timing and expert finishing he latched on to a Didier Drogba pass before guiding the ball low beyond the reach of Antti Niemi.
Although Frank is the deserved winner of the accolade there were are a number of other notable performances from England players.
Chris Kirkland made a terrific save for Wigan to help secure a crucial point against Watford, since moving on loan to the JJB he has made a number of impressive displays and this was no exception.
Steven Gerrard was also in fine form for Liverpool, playing wide on the right he created the first goal with a lovely run past Spurs full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
Mention should also be made of the exciting performance of England Under-21 defender Micah Richards in Manchester City's 2-0 victory over West Ham United.
Showing incredible pace and power he was a constant threat with his bursting runs and will hopefully continue that form when Peter Taylor's men take on Germany next month.
Speaking about the award Nationwide's Sponsorship Controller Chris Hull said: "It's great to see Frank Lampard on the score sheet and in some style at the weekend. Hopefully he will continue such form in front of goal when England face Macedonia at Old Trafford on 7 October."
