Steve McClaren met with Peter Taylor and Ray Clemence at Soho Square on Wednesday.
Clem to continue
Wednesday, 02 August 2006.
New England Head Coach Steve McClaren has confirmed that Ray Clemence will continue in his role as Goalkeeping Coach for the senior team, a position he has held since 1996.
Steve said: "Ray is a vital member of the coaching set-up and I was very keen to see him continue in his role. He is hugely respected by the players and his own experience of international football, both as a player and a coach, will be invaluable to me."
Earlier on Tuesday Steve met with Peter Taylor to discuss the forthcoming England matches, in particular the Under-21s European Championship qualifier against Moldova on Tuesday 15 August.
On his second day as England Head Coach, McClaren said: "It was really good to sit down with Peter and talk through how the senior and Under-21s teams run alongside each other. He has a wealth of experience at that level and we had a very useful meeting.
"The Under-21s are an extremely valuable way of giving young players top level international experience. They have also provided a springboard for the bulk of the current senior squad. I'll be keeping a very close eye on the different youth teams, particularly the Under-21s, and monitoring how various players perform."
