Andrew Johnson explains the secret of his success after a flying start to the season with new club Everton. |
Andrew Johnson has already started repaying the faith shown in him by David Moyes, and is hoping to do the same for England Head Coach Steve McClaren.
With two goals already in his first three games for Everton, Johnson is now looking to bring his goalscoring touch to the international arena.
Speaking exclusively to TheFA.com Johnson hailed his two new managers, for England and Everton: "David Moyes has put massive trust in me as well and with the fee that Everton paid for me, so I'm just looking to repay that.
"Steve McClaren has been brilliant with me, he just told me well done on getting back into the squad and told me to enjoy training.
"It's a great bonus for me to be here back in the England squad and I'm just looking to give it my best shot."
Despite not being involved in Steve McClaren's first match in charge, Johnson was watching at home eager to be involved and is delighted to be in the squad this time around.
"I was at home watching with my little boy and it was a great performance obviously to score four goals in the first game for the new manager is fantastic.
"I was itching to be involved to be honest, but I had to wait for my chance and I wanted to get settled in at Everton. Now I'm here I'm just happy to be amongst the squad and looking to take my opportunity."
After an incredible rise over the last few years, Johnson admits that the secret of his success is good honest hard work.
"It all comes down to working hard on the training field, that's where your bread and butter is.
"It's important to stay behind and work on your game, and playing with better players also helps."
That hard work has paid off this season for Johnson with three fine performances and his club sitting pretty with seven points from three games.
"It's always good to get off to a great start and, as a striker, score a few goals. To bring that in to training today was a good feeling.
"You have to work hard and I've always been pleased with my work ethic over the years."
Playing for the Goodison Park club is also proving to be a massive boost to Johnson's confidence.
"Everton is a massive club, playing in front of 40,000 fans every week is brilliant. The fans are so passionate and they are one of the biggest clubs in English football, it was a masive part of my decision.
"But obviously to get in the Premiership again and back in the England squad is a great bonus for me - it's a huge lift."
