Euro fixtures update
Friday, 24 February 2006.
The FA and the other six countries in our Euro 2008 qualifying group will ask UEFA to be allowed to try again to find a solution to the group fixture list.
The seven countries in Group E – England, Croatia, Russia, Israel, Estonia, FYR Macedonia and Andorra - met yesterday in Zagreb, Croatia but were unable to reach agreement.
An FA spokesman said: "We reached agreement with all of the other countries on our fixtures but not all of the others were able to agree among themselves.
"It is disappointing for us and we could not have done more to find a resolution. Unfortunately the bigger the group, the more difficult it is to reach agreement."
UEFA were therefore due to make a draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Thursday 2 March to determine the schedule.
But the spokesman said: "We proposed to the other countries that as a group we ask UEFA to delay the draw to give us another chance at resolving this situation on Friday 3 March. Everyone agreed on this and we will be in contact with UEFA today."
The 2008 European Championship will be played in Austria and Switzerland from 7 to 29 June, with four venues in each country.
