Wright-Phillips, 23, is hoping a £21m move to the champions can help him seal a place in England’s World Cup squad as we battle to qualify for the finals in Germany.

And with Frank Lampard, John Terry, Joe Cole and Glen Johnson already at Stamford Bridge, west London is becoming an England stronghold!

Wright-Phillips has won four caps for England so far, scoring a spectacular goal on his debut against Ukraine, but he feels he can become a regular by playing alongside England teammates at club level.

He said: "When everything was confirmed I realised it was a great move for me and for my future as well because there will be times when I can win a load of medals and I can be a better player.

"It will boost my chances of getting in the World Cup squad which is a major for me. As soon as I sat down with my family and friends I realised it was the right move.

"It's a club that is going somewhere and they're winning things. I just want to win a lot of medals and Chelsea at the moment are doing that and will do for a long time.

"I'm really glad to be here and I've met a lot of the fans already and they've welcomed me with open arms and I cannot wait to play in front of them."

Wright-Phillips, who gave his first interview to Chelsea TV, is looking forward to playing alongside England teammates Terry, Lampard, Cole and Johnson at Stamford Bridge. And he is especially keen to link up with Cole – even though some critics say they are rivals for the same position!

He said: "Me and Joe are in competition but there is competition all over the park. We get on really well and we already in competition when we are away with England. We still get on like a house on fire.

"I am happy as long as he is doing well and I am sure he feels the same about me as long as we are both in a winning team.

"The competition is fine by me. I never expected to go anywhere and walk into the team to be honest with you. Competition is healthy really and will help make me a better player.

"We played with the two wingers and one striker formation Chelsea use at City a few times and played it once with England - it is not a problem."
