Carter twice timed his runs into the penalty area to perfection and on both occasions showed great composure to beat Neil Sullivan in Birmingham's 3-0 win.

England's 1970 World Cup star, Alan Mullery said: "It's always nice to see a goalscoring midfielder!"

"It's part of the modern game, midfielders having the energy to get into both penalty areas"

"Darren was the major reason Birmingham are in today's Fourth Round draw, unlike some Premiership clubs."

Carter scored his first goal after 21 minutes, playing an important part in the build-up before getting beyond Leeds United's backline, to despatch Morrison's cross. His second strike, midway through the second half was even more impressive, embarking on a 60-yard run and keeping his finish low to give Sullivan no chance.
