Post-Match: Steven Gerrard
England midfielder Steven Gerrard says the 4-1 friendly defeat to Denmark in Copenhagen was 'just a bad night at the office'.

Steven Gerrard says England must look ahead to their two important World Cup qualifiers and make sure they don’t have a repeat of the second-half performance in Copenhagen.

The Three Lions suffered a 4-1 friendly defeat to a vibrant Denmark side with all the goals coming in the last half hour, but Gerrard insists that it was a one-off.

“We have got quality, there’s no doubt about that, but I think it was just a bad night at the office,” he said.

“You can look for excuses all night, but that second-half performance wasn’t acceptable.”

“We’ve let the fans down, we’ve let ourselves down and the manager and we need to put that right in a couple of weeks.”

The Liverpool skipper, who played for 84 minutes at the Parken Stadium, is confident England will put on a better show against Wales and Northern Ireland next month.

“When you go a goal down and come out chasing, you can get punished as has happened tonight.

“I think we’ve proved over the last couple years that against quality sides we can play.

“Tonight it just we wrong for us and we need to sit down before the next two qualifiers and make sure we get the simple things right.

“We need to get things sorted out and hopefully, come the next two qualifiers, we can take it out on the Welsh and the Irish.”
