Shaun Wright-Phillips made his first start in an England shirt while Stewart Downing and Andy Johnson made their debuts as second-half substitutes in the goalless draw with Holland.

And knowing Sven-Goran Eriksson as he does, Beckham is convinced they will all get more chances to shine at international level.

"What Shaun has been doing for Manchester City has impressed everyone and he is a great lad as well, which makes it better," said the England skipper.

"As for Andy Johnson and Stewart Downing - what they are doing for their clubs is very good and I’m sure they will get another chance. The manager won’t just give them one chance, but as many chances as it takes."

Beckham acknowledged it was not the greatest spectacle and added: "We were aware it was not the best of games but our attitude was good and we played some good football at times.

"The manager had made us aware after the game against Spain that he wasn’t too happy with some of the things that went on and our attitude in that game, and we had to change it."

The 4-3-3 system was new but the players grew into it. "I think we got into the system gradually," he added.

"It took a little bit of time, because the Dutch kept the ball well, passed it around and were a strong team. But once we got hold of the ball, we passed it around as well and created a few good chances."

Beckham was also proud of the anti-racism message sent out by both teams. "It’s very important to show unity around the world and publicise the anti-racism campaign.

"It’s not just one or two countries that are doing it - it is all over the world and that is a very positive thing," he said.
