"It was a good first half," said Grip, "there was a lot of quality play.

"We saw good passing and good defending from both teams, but I think we had the best chances to score.

"When you make a lot of changes, the tempo sometimes slows down and they were also happy with the result, I think."

Tord continued: "The three centre-midfield players did very well, so I think Sven is pleased with their performances. And, of course, the two new central defenders; they were excellent."

Two players new to the squad who collected their first caps were Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson and Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing.

Both have made headlines in the Premier League this season and were fully deserving of their calls into the squad, but will the debut pair get a chance to make an impression for England again?

"I think they all have a chance," added Grip.
