The Arsenal defender stopped Shaun Wright-Phillips and scored the winning goal at Manchester City to keep his side on top of the Premiership.
Ashley Cole was Arsenal’s unlikely goal hero in their 1-0 win at Manchester City on Saturday.
But the left-back didn’t shirk his defensive responsibilities, giving Shaun Wright-Phillips his toughest game of the season.
Cole’s winner after 14 minutes was a beauty, cutting in from the left and jabbing a clever finish past David James with the outside of his boot.
It was even admired by former striker Mick Quinn, who scored 231 league goals for several clubs including Portsmouth, Newcastle and Coventry.
"Ashley is just having a sensational time at the moment. He is getting better and better," says Quinn.
"He’s a terrific left-back and is adding goals as well now. It really was an excellent finish against City.
"He is so consistent these days, it’s hard to fault him."
Cole nearly added a second after half-time when his rasping shot beat James before hitting the woodwork.
At the other end, Wright-Phillips didn’t manage a shot on target - another reason why Ashley Cole is the Lion of the Weekend.
