Gascoigne earned 57 caps with England and was one of the stars of the 1990 World Cup and Euro 1996.

Now, having been without a club since ending a stint as a player-coach in China last year, Gascoigne will help the Lincolnshire club in their forthcoming League two campaign.

Gascoigne was one of the star performers as England so nearly qualified for a first World Cup final on foreign soil, but what are his ten other team-mates from that fateful day in Turin up to now?

Peter Shilton

The Leicester-born goalkeeper ended his playing career at Leyton Orient in 1997 where he notched up a total of 1000 league appearances. Nowadays, the former England goalkeeper does a lot of after-dinner speeches.

Terry Butcher

Legendary defender Terry Butcher, a veteran of three England World Cup campaigns in 1982, 1986 and 1990, is now manager at Scottish side Motherwell. He also does some work for the BBC.

Des Walker

Walker made 59 appearances for England. The veteran defender announced his retirement from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season and is now a month into his new role on the coaching staff.

Mark Wright

Made over 200 appearances for Liverpool after the World Cup, and retired in 1998 to manage at Oxford, the club where he began his professional career. Dismissed from the club in November 2001, and is now managing at Conference side Chester.

Paul Parker

Left QPR after the World Cup to sign for Manchester United, where he won three Premiership medals. Ended his playing career at Farnborough in May 2000 after brief stints at Derby, Sheffield United, Fulham and Chelsea. Currently manager of Welling United.

Stuart Pearce

Stuart Pearce MBE, former England international and player-manager at Nottingham Forest FC and is now joint first-team coach at Manchester City Football Club alongside Derek Fazackerley.

David Platt

Former England player and captain David Platt succeeded Howard Wilkinson as coach of the England Under 21 side in July 2001, after leaving Nottingham Forest.

He left that post in May 2004 but continued to work for the FA until after Euro 2004, acting as a scout for the senior team.

Paul Gascoigne

The former England bad-boy has taken on the role of player-coach at Boston United. Gazza, who also played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers, had been without a club since ending a stint as a player-coach in China last year.

Chris Waddle

Former England legend Chris Waddle was co-commentator for BBC Five Live during the Euro 2004 Championships in Portugal. He also writes a column for The Sun newspaper.

Peter Beardsley

Spent the rest of career at Newcastle before retiring at the end of the 1997 season. Had a brief stint as a coach for United but left before the end of his first season. Now doing radio punditry for BBC Tyne radio.

Gary Lineker

Captain of the England side between 1990-92, Gary Lineker is still working as the BBC's Match of the Day presenter and the current face of Walker's crisps.
