The England captain missed training for the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday while he had a scan on a back injury but it turned out to be nothing serious.

Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer also trained after missing out on Tuesday with a foot injury, further boosting Sven's midfield options ahead of the crucial match on Saturday.

Liverpool duo Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard along with recalled striker Emile Heskey and young Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing were also involved after being rested on Tuesday.

The positive verdicts on Beckham and Dyer will give England a lift after Crystal Palace striker Andrew Johnson, who made his debut against February last month, was forced to pull out of the squad with an ankle injury.

Saturday's match at Old Trafford is the first of a double header, with a second game against Azerbaijan being played at Newcastle's St. James' Park next Wednesday.
