Midfielder Jenas was a surprise inclusion in Sven-Goran Eriksson's line-up, being brought in as a direct replacement for injured and suspended Captain David Beckham.

The Newcastle man produced an impressive display as the Three Lions won 1-0 in terrible conditions. And even now he is still on a high.

He said: "It was a great performance from the lads and it was a great result. It wasn't easy in a game like that where conditions are hard, but I thoroughly enjoyed my first start.

"There was a lot to deal with out there but I thought the lads dealt with it brilliantly, the ball was swirling all over the place and it was difficult to judge the flight sometimes.

"But we got the goal in the first half and defended really well in the second. We've picked up six points in the last two games and that is great and obviously I'm looking forward to the next game."

The only question for Jenas, of course, is whether he will be able to hang on to his place. Will even David Beckham struggle to win his shirt back?

"I don't know about that," said Jenas. "But it was great to put on his shirt and make my first international start."
