Bridge left in play
By Simon Johnson. Saturday, 04 September 2004.
Frank Lampard declared the Wayne Bridge and Ashley Cole partnership a great success and believes it could be used again in the future.
Bridge played ahead of Cole on the left hand side for the first time in two years and the duo caused the Austrian team plenty of problems.
The Chelsea left back had to play further forward than he does at Stamford Bridge as Cole was retained in the left back berth, but he did enough to impress.
Lampard admits that having the two left-footed players made life easier for him in the middle of the pitch and hopes it won't be a one off.
Lampard said: "I think Wayne did well especially in the first half when he gave us really good width and we were able to cause them a few problems.
"Every time I looked up when I was in the midfield I saw he was available to my left and I was able to pass the ball out to him or Ashley.
"There is great pace between the two of them and I think they linked up well and could do so again in the future."
