Talking to TheFA.com ahead of Iceland's Summer Tournament clash against England, he gave a glowing assessment of his skipper at Stamford Bridge.  "He progressed much quicker than I thought," said Gudjohnsen.

"But he took his chance with both hands and he's matured into the role of captain so quickly."

"Apart from being a fantastic defender the commitment he shows both on and off the pitch is something to admire. He's got all the qualities a captain should have."

Gudjohnsen is also hoping that another of his Chelsea friends, Frank Lampard, can carry his form with the Blues this season over to Portugal.

"The amount of goals Frank has scored from midfield has been really good for us. It would be nice for him and England if he could take that form into the European championships.

"I'm an England fan and I'll be wanting my team mates to do well.  They are physically very strong and can play some decent football as well."
