Sven's Wright on cue

Sven-Goran Eriksson was at Elland Road last night to see Leeds United beat Manchester City 2-1.

Shaun Wright-Phillips, the focus of much recent media attention, had another strong game for Kevin Keegan's side.

In the first half the 22-year-old midfielder shot narrowly wide from Joey Barton's intelligent pass and throughout the match he was a constant danger to the Leeds back-line, delivering good crosses for Robbie Fowler, Nicolas Anelka and Antoine Sibierski.

Sven names his squad for the match away to Sweden this Saturday and he has admitted to TheFA.com that he has been increasingly impressed with the fleet-footed youngster this season.

"He has done better and better this season," said Sven. "He is scoring goals too now. If he continues like this, playing the same way every week, then it is sure I will be taking notice of him."

Alan Smith, who has seven caps to his name, also had a good game and linked well with England Under-19 striker James Milner.

Though he managed to get a hand to the ball, Three Lions goalkeeper David James would have been disappointed to let Stephen McPhail's free-kick find the back of the net.

Seth Johnson, who played in Peter Taylor's one and only match in charge of the Senior side, made himself busy and Jermaine Pennant, on-loan from Arsenal, won the free-kick from which McPhail opened the scoring.

Robbie Fowler, who won his 26th cap against Denmark in the World Cup, had one of his quieter games for City and was never presented with anything more than a half-chance.
