England Head Coach Sven Goran Eriksson
Sven impressed by Becks
Tuesday, 05 August 2003.
England Head Coach Sven Goran Eriksson was back at his desk at FA Headquarters in Soho Square today and one of the first things on his agenda was seeing David Beckham's second match for his new club Real Madrid on the Spanish champions' Far East tour...
Sven watched the whole match, played against FC Toyko, live in his office and his eyes understandably lit up when the new Madrid midfield maestro swept in his goal a few minutes before half time.
It was the type of free kick that has almost come to be expected from the England skipper and after the game Sven caught up with TheFA.com to give his opinion on Beckham's summer move.
"I have said before that it makes absolutely no difference to me who David plays for but it could be good as well," Sven said.
"He certainly won't be a worse football player from experiencing a different style."
The first England match of the new season is on Wednesday 20 August against Croatia at Portman Road.
Sven is due to announce his squad for that game on the evening of Saturday 16 August, after the first round of Premiership fixtures.
As always, TheFA.com will have exclusive first news of the squad before anyone else on the Saturday night...
