The meeting, to discuss the match to be played in Fenerbache on October 11, forms part of the on-going dialogue that has taken place between the two associations over the last few months.

The FA's delegation will comprise Geoff Thompson (Chairman of The FA), Nic Coward (Director of Corporate and Legal Affairs), and Ray Whitworth (Head of Team and Corporate Security).

"We are looking forward to Friday's meeting in Geneva because we are keen to go to Turkey with our relationships in best shape possible," Paul Barber, The FA's Director of Marketing and Communications explained.

"The discussions form another layer of the planning for a match that it very important from a number of different perspectives.

 

"As we have stated previously, we are looking at the possibility of holding a joint press conference for Sven and Senol Gunes to appeal for calm and good spirits ahead of the match. We are also considering sending some of our former players as Ambassadors in advance of the match.

"We are doing everything in our power to ensure that both this match and the game away to Macedonia are played in the best spirit possible. In doing so, The FA has taken some difficult but important decisions regarding tickets for both matches. Now, we need all the other relevant authorities - The Foreign Office, Home Office, NCIS, UK Police Forces and Turkish authorities - to do what they can to ensure that no known trouble-makers travel to the game.

"The FA, once again, urges fans NOT to travel to Turkey but to watch the match on TV instead".
