With England's match against Australia only a week away, Southampton defender Wayne Bridge is struggling to make Sven's squad. Bridge sustained a calf injury in his side's 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool and has subsequently missed the Saints' last three games.
His injury has coincided with Southampton's loss of form which has put an end to the side's wonderful unbeaten run. Bridge's chances are far from over, however, but the results of a scan today will be critical as to whether he will be available for the Upton Park clash.
In better spirits is fellow Saint James Beattie who is a strong contender to be included in an England squad for the first time.
"Realistically I am not going to make the England game. To do that I would have to play at Blackburn on Saturday and that is not going to happen.
"I really hope Beatts gets a call-up and I would love to be there with him but I have just about given up hope.
"The calf is still very sore and it is taking longer than I hoped to heal which is very frustrating.
"But it has been stressed that I cannot rush back because if it goes again then I will be out for a lot longer."
Sven will name his squad on Saturday evening exclusively to TheFA.com. Make sure you log on to see it here first.
