Gareth arguably knows Steve better than anyone else and is fully aware of the workload that the former Manchester United assistant manager has put in for both club and country over the last couple of years.

Steve felt he had to step down from his England duties to concentrate fully on his duties at 'Boro and will undoubtedly be missed by everyone in the camp.

"He was very heavily involved in the training and the preparations of the team and I'm sure from an England point of view it will be a big loss with him withdrawing,"

Gareth told the BBC. "I don't think it's a case of him walking away from England and I know he was very proud to be involved with England. And I'm sure there will be a time in the future where he will be involved."

We look forward to it.
