Captain Jay Jay Okocha, who recently announced his retirement from international football, is determined to end his career with the Super Eagles on a high and put England on a plane out of Japan.

The Paris St Germain midfielder, who is attracting attention from many Premiership clubs including Bolton Wanderers, says that his decision has nothing to do with the two World Cup defeats against Argentina and Sweden that have put Nigeria out earlier than expected.

"I have always thought of quitting the national team after the World Cup," he said.

"This should be my last World Cup appearance - there's no doubt about that.

"I have to give the opportunity to the younger ones, who are equally promising. It's painful that it ended this way - but what can one do?

"This is a game of football and you can never know what will happen. Now it has gone this way. Honestly, nothing would have stopped me from quitting after the championship."

However, though Nigeria and Okocha may be lacking in confidence after their disappointing showing in the far east so far, England cannot afford to right off a side that his packed full of surprises - and a player like Okocha that has his fair share of tricks hidden up his sleeve.

"We are still going to play to win," Okocha confirmed.

"We're going to play our normal game, while England will be under pressure. At least for the sake of our country we're going to play to win."

One player who the English already know a lot about, but can still rarely predict is Okocha's team matel star Kanu,  however the Arsenal start has been ruled out of Wednesday's game after failing to sufuciently recover from an injury sustained during the defeat against Argentina.  Although he was keen to face his Highbury team mates Campbell, Seaman and Ashley Cole, coach Festus Onigbinde had to talk him out of risking it.

"He wanted to play but I advised him not to," said Onigbinde. "Kanu is precious to us and it was not worth the risk.

"Like Jay Jay Okocha, he is one of those players who leads from the front and acts as an inspiration to those around him.

"He will be missed but the remaining players will still give it 100%. We have to play it as if we are still in the World Cup."
