Joe Hart 'gutted' at conceding Polish equaliser in Warsaw
Joe Hart accepted responsibility for Poland’s equaliser as England drew in Warsaw.
The Three Lions took the lead through Wayne Rooney’s first half effort but conceded a 70th minute leveller through Kamil Glik.
A rare misjudgement from Manchester City No.1 Hart saw Glik power home a header but the point keeps Roy Hodgson’s men on top of World Cup Qualifying Group H.
Hart admitted: “I came for the ball, didn’t get there and the lad’s put in a good header.
“It was my fault, I probably should have punched it or stayed in my goal, but I didn’t do either and they scored.
“I’m gutted that that’s cost us the three points, because I couldn’t see them scoring any other way but we have to believe that this is a good point.”
Despite being disappointed with the final result, Hart hailed the 800 travelling England fans who stayed another day in Poland after the game was rearranged following torrential rain last night.
He added: “This is a tough place to come and the England fans were outstanding staying an extra day for us.
“We appreciate their support but it’s just a shame we couldn’t give them three points.”
He added: “The pitch wasn’t great but it’s the same for both teams.
“We’ve both dealt with the situation and made a very good game of something that could have been very difficult because it got put back at day and was played at 5pm.”
