Joleon Lescott is hoping to continue his good form for England and make it a season to remember for both club and country.

Lescott has played a major role in helping Manchester City finish third in the Premier League and seeing them qualify for the Champions League next season.

The England defender also played his part in helping them win The FA Cup and says it would be a fitting way to end the campaign if he can now help England record a win over Switzerland in their crucial European Championship Qualifier on Saturday.

Lescott said: "We have won The FA Cup and got into the Champions League and these are exciting times for me. I am looking forward to it and I hope to play some part on Saturday and then enjoy my break.

"We are fully focused on the game and we know Switzerland have got a strong team. If we don't apply ourselves right it could be a potential banana skin.

“There’s no complacency issue with us though, we’ll just plan what the Manager wants to do and if we do that then we’ll win the game.

“We just need to focus and believe in ourselves and I think we can achieve many things.

“It’s a massive game for us to get three points and finish the season well.

"The Manager has told us to focus and if we believe in ourselves we can achieve most things. The pressure is not any bigger than any other game. We need to apply what the manager wants us to do and if we do that we can win the game.

"I think all the games are must win. The importance of this one highlights it a bit more but we are feeling confident we can get the three points."

Lescott knows he faces a battle to win his place in the England team as Rio Ferdinand and captain John Terry look the favourites to play alongside each other. But he hopes that his experience of playing in the Champions League next season will improve his chances of cementing his place in the side.

He added: "It is going to be hard getting into the team as they are two of the best players in the world and have been doing it for a number of years.

"I will apply myself right and hopefully playing in the Champions League for Manchester City next season will only bode well for me if I am called upon."
