Jamie Carragher is confident he and John Terry can form an impressive central defensive partnership against Algeria on Friday.

The Liverpool centre-back came on at half-time in Saturday's 1-1 Group C draw with USA after Ledley King was forced to withdraw with a groin injury. King is unlikely to be fit to face Algeria in England's second game of the World Cup, but Carragher believes he and Terry are ready to fill the void.

"We have to be confident in the ability that both of us have got," said Carragher, who came out of international retirement for the tournament in South Africa.

"I'm sure that experience will help us, that's always a big thing in football. And the squad hasn't changed that much from the 2006 World Cup, so we have a lot of experienced players here."

And Carragher is adamant that Fabio Capello's experience will help England in their quest to win the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

"I'm sure that Capello will be fine - he has been manager of AC Milan and Real Madrid. We talk about the pressure of being England Manager, but it's a different thing at Real Madrid.

"You just have to look at his record, and what he has done in his career and what he done with England means it is unblemished.

"That means you have to believe in him."
