England midfielder Steven Gerrard admits the Three Lions will do everything in their power to win the World Cup in South Africa following their 3-1 win over Mexico.
Fabio Capello’s side gave the England fans the perfect send-off as they played their last game on home soil with an impressive victory.
Goals from Ledley King, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson gave England the perfect confidence boost ahead of their last friendly against Japan in Austria on Sunday.
Gerrard believes England can get even better before the World Cup gets underway and is hopeful they can go all the way in South Africa.
Gerrard said: “The fans were magnificent and got behind the team. They are desperate for us to go to South Africa and well.
“There is still time for us to sharpen up and we will give it our best shot.”
Despite coming away with a 3-1 victory, Gerrard feels the England team were not at their best in the first half and can learn a lot from their last friendly at Wembley.
Gerrard added: “I think the manager wanted more aggression from the whole team.
“They had too much possession in the first half and in the second half we got more in their faces.
“I think we need to be able to adapt for different opposition and that is down to the manager to choose how we play.”
