Dawson's dream

Michael Dawson is hoping for his first Senior cap on Monday.
Michael Dawson is hoping to achieve a lifelong ambition of playing for England on Monday night, as he prepares for the friendly game with Mexico at Wembley.
The Tottenham Hotspur has enjoyed a tremendous season at White Hart Lane, playing a major role in their fourth place finish in the Premier League and helping them to an FA Cup Semi-Final.
He was rewarded with a place in Fabio Capello’s initial 30 man squad as preparations for the World Cup get underway and has been with the party in Austria for training ahead of Monday’s Wembley showdown.
One help for the former Nottingham Forest man has been the presence of no fewer than five other Spurs players on the trip, the most from any one club so settling in was not a problem for the 26-year-old.
“It's the first squad I've been in under Mr Capello, and obviously it'll make it easier being around a few lads I already know,” he explained in an interview for the official match programme.
“It makes you a lot more relaxed knowing that when you come away there'll be a few familiar faces, but all the lads have been fantastic.”
Dawson had previously been capped 12 times for the Under-21 team, but is now eyeing up his first Senior cap.
“You're always hoping that you'll be in the squad, but there's a lot of top class centre halves out there who want to be in the squad just as much as you,” he added.
“It would be a dream come true to play for your country. I've been in a few squads but not got on the pitch and earned a cap yet, but it's always been a dream of mine to play for England.”
