Captain believes squad will perform on Wednesday night.

John Terry has backed England's squad members to show why they deserve a place in Fabio Capello's first-team when the Three Lions face Belarus at Wembley on Wednesday.

The likes of Peter Crouch, Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner could be handed starting spots in England's final World Cup qualifier of a hugely successful campaign.

And skipper Terry has hailed the injured Wayne Rooney's contribution over the last nine games, while making it clear that England's fringe players are ready to prove their worth.

"We've seen what a good player Wayne is, and he has been the heartbeat of our campaign," said the Chelsea star.

"He will be sorely missed but it's a chance for other players to come in and cement their place on the plane to the World Cup in South Africa.

"We played Germany last year (when key players were missing) and beat them. There were some real positives from that game, from the likes of Agbonlahor and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

"They can really give the manager food for thought. We know the manager is strong enough not to select us, and there is a real desire and hunger to show what we can do."
