Jack Wilshere could become an England centurion according to Arsene Wenger

Jack Wilshere could go on to win 100 caps for England, according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners midfielder, 21, has won seven caps for the Three Lions since his senior debut against Hungary in August 2010.

But injury problems saw him ruled out for both club and country for the best part of 18 months before he made his return to action this season.

And Wenger believes that Wilshere is likely to become an England centurion if he can avoid injury for the rest of his promising career.

He said: "When you look at Wilshere, who will deny that this guy will get 100 caps for England? Nobody, if he has no injury.

“My only worry when you are a footballer player of that talent is to become as good as you can be.

"That is the only thing that is of interest to me. My job is to get the best out of him."

Wenger admits that he’s still surprised at the standard to which Wilshere has reached at such a tender age.

The former England U16, U17, U19 and Under-21 star made his debut for the Gunners at the age of 16.

And he’s now one of Arsenal’s key players, starring in the Premier League and Champions League as well as in Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

He added: "You tend to forget how old he is when you see him play. You never come out of a game and think 'this guy is 21 years old'.

“He's at a stage where the others have not started. You think of Jack as an established player in the Premier League and at international level, that is still something special.

"Jack breathes football. He doesn't talk too much, but he understands everything.

"What he has exceeded is the speed of his physical fitness in the game. Honestly, I never expected that."
