Former England captain David Beckham has been training with Arsenal

David Beckham has been training with Arsenal as he looks to keep on top of his fitness levels.

The former England captain has been without a club since early December, when he left US outfit LA Galaxy at the end of the Major League Soccer campaign.

Beckham has yet to reveal where he will be playing next, despite previously admitting that he wants to continue his football career for as long as possible.

And with the 37-year-old back in England until he makes his next move, he has taken the chance to work on his fitness with the Gunners squad.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed: "He called me and he has asked to come here and to work on his fitness.

"He has not done anything for a long, long time so it's purely for fitness. There's no speculation about signing or anything."

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star had previously worked at Arsenal's London Colney training base for similar reasons in 2008 and 2011.

He also spent time training with Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in January 2011 and Wenger admits he is more than happy to let Beckham join his players on the training ground.

Former Arsenal stars Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry have also enjoyed linking up with their former club for training in the past.

"We are open for people who behave well when they come here," he added.

"There's no benefit to Arsenal, it's just to help somebody."
