Chris Smalling spoke to FATV after England's win over Brazil
Chris Smalling spoke of his delight at helping England beat Brazil for the first time in 23 years.
The centre-back, who was making just his fourth senior team appearance, played his part as Roy Hodgson’s men recorded a memorable 2-1 win over the five-time World Champions at Wembley.
It was just the sort of result and performance the Three Lions would have been looking for ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifying double-header in San Marino and Montenegro.
Smalling told FATV: “It was a massive win and it has given everyone a real lift.
“I think [our performance] was terrific. We limited them to minimal chances. We really gave them more problems than they posed us.
“On paper they have got some very good players, as we have. They are a team that goes in[to games] with a lot of confidence, but we limited them and overall we felt very good.
“We showed that we can beat one of the best teams in the world and when we go back into the qualifiers next month it really gives us that edge to really kick on and make sure we’re at that World Cup in Brazil.”
