Ton-up Ashley Cole left speechless after Wembley reaction to his landmark appearance
said he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the reception he received from England fans on the night of his 100th cap.
The left-back made his landmark appearance in the 2-1 win over Brazil at Wembley Stadium
on Wednesday and he admitted the supporters’ reaction left him almost speechless.
He told Ian Dennis from BBC Radio 5Live: “I’d like to thank the fans because I didn’t really expect the reception I got, it was very nice. I’m overwhelmed, kind of speechless.
“When I got out there it wasn’t about me, it was about playing against a world class team and trying to win at home in front of the fans.
“It was a good team performance, especially in the second half, so I’m happy with the result.
Cole, who became just the seventh England player to reach triple figures, added: “It’s been hard growing up the way I did.
“I never would have thought I’d have got to this stage of my career and my life and I’m very happy with what I’ve achieved."
