Arsenal boss "exceptionally happy" as England midfielder is back in action

After over a year on the sidelines, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was happy to see Jack Wilshere back in action for the Gunners.

The 20-year-old played for more than an hour in the Arsenal Under-21s side at West Bromwich Albion on Monday afternoon.

It was Wilshere's first match since July 2011 as Wenger continues the steady the task of nursing him back to full-fitness.

The England midfielder had been out with an ankle injury that saw him miss the whole of last season for his club.

"We are pleased about Jack but we have to take our time to get him slowly back," Wenger said.

"We are very happy and we must be exceptionally happy but he has been out for 14 months so let's be serious and not get caught up in cloudy media expectations."
