England forward says he is keen to remain with Arsenal.

England ace Theo Walcott says he wants to stay with Arsenal and become a legend at the Emirates Stadium, emulating one of his idols Thierry Henry in the process.

Walcott admits he has been hurt by speculation that a delay in him signing a new contract with the north London club is down to financial differences between the two parties and he is hopeful that a new agreement can be struck in the coming months allowing him to remain part of Arsene Wenger's squad.

"I want to be an Arsenal legend," admitted the former Southampton starlet, who is also eyeing a more central striking role in the team. 

"Thierry Henry joined the club when he was 22 and I want to become an Arsenal legend like him, playing up-front as well, which is a big factor for me.

"I've played on the right wing and had the opportunity to play up front a bit more so I think it's about time."

The 23-year-old was also keen to highlight that any decision he reaches about his Arsenal future will be based on footballing, not fiscal, reasons and urged patience from the supporters as negotiations over a new deal continue.

"My last contract took over six months to happen, so hopefully, it can be sorted out," he added, at an event for The FA's 'Just Play' campaign with Mars.

"I've never said I wanted to go, I've always wanted to stay. I'm not the sort of person who's influenced by money. I always make my decisions based on football and only football.

"Hopefully, something can be sorted out. I'll just wait for the club to get back to us now and go from there."
