  • Roy Hodgson and Steven Caulker during an England training session

Unique opportunity for some community volunteers from Fryshuset

Young Swedish football fans enjoyed a unique opportunity to watch England train at the new national stadium in Solna.

The Three Lions’ match against Sweden will be the official opening of the Friends Arena and Hodgson oversaw one last training session on Tuesday evening in front of the enthusiastic hoard from Fryshuset.

A number of them volunteer as young leaders in a locally run project called ‘Calm Streets’ which aims to foster a safer community environment.

And England captain Steven Gerrard, who is set to earn his 100th cap against Erik Hamren's side, was delighted they enjoyed the session.

He said: “Community initiatives are really important no matter what country you’re from and what some of these young people are doing is fantastic.

“It’s nice that they look up to us and it’s great to be a source of inspiration for them.

"Every footballer knows they need to set a good example.”
