Theo Walcott's hat-trick helps to inspire Arsenal to big win over Newcastle
Theo Walcott's superb season continued on Saturday evening with a stunning hat-trick in Arsenal's 7-3 win over Newcastle.
Walcott has now scored six goals in six Premier League matches and has 14 for the season. The England international is enjoying a wonderful campaign and was just one of a number of Three Lions stars to shine on Saturday.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, another to have impressed in England colours, was also on target for Arsene Wenger's side as it rained goals at the Emirates.
Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere also featured, while Walcott also set up the fifth for Olivier Giroud with a wonderful delivery.
But the day belonged to Walcott and he said: "The team showed great quality and belief. It's great for the fans and was great to be part of it.
"I've been saying for the past few weeks that I want to play up front and I am showing the manager what I can do. I believe I will be a striker and it is about taking the opportunity when I get it."
Aaron Lennon was in fine form for Tottenham in their 2-1 win at Sunderland and the England winger admits the win puts his side in a decent position going into the New Year.
Lennon grabbed the winner in the victory that moved Tottenham up to third on Saturday and he said: "It was a good performance.
"We were on top of the game and it was a strong 90 minutes. We felt if we can come out strongly we would win the game.
"It's a boost to be third. To get third is nice to take into the New Year."
Ben Foster won five caps for England but has taken time out from international duty to allow himself a proper rest period when he is not playing at West Bromwich Albion.
And the goalkeeper performed well at Old Trafford on Saturday - even though Manchester United won 2-0, Foster was superb and his manager Steve Clarke said: "There was a stage in second half when we had a really good control.
"I thought the game was more likely to go 1-1 than 2-0. Ben Foster made some good saves, that's why we spent our whole transfer budget on Ben in the summer."
