Chelsea midfielder expected get results from scan on calf injury on Thursday
Frank Lampard is expected to find out on Thursday the extent of the injury that saw him taken off in the first half of Chelsea's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.
The England midfielder was replaced after just 17 minutes of Tuesday's game in Ukraine with the Blues trailling to Alex Teixeira's third-minute opener.
Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo said that it was due to a recurrence of the calf injury that kept him out of England's
2014 World Cup qualifiers against
San Marino and
Poland.
The Italian also confirmed that 34-year-old Lampard will undergo a scan, the results of which will be know on Thursday.
"It's basically a recurrence of an old injury," he said. "He was training with us fine and there were no alarm bells before the game. He was in good condition to play."
Di Matteo will be hopeful that Lampard is fit for Chelsea next game. They face Manchester United in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
