Kyle Walker hoping to get a chance to impress against San Marino

England’s Kyle Walker is looking to leave a lasting impression on Roy Hodgson on Friday – providing he gets the chance to start against San Marino.

The Spurs starlet has had to bide his time since making his Three Lions debut last November and missed out on EURO 2012 because of injury.

But with Glen Johnson suspended for the match at Wembley, the 22-year-old is expected to line-up in defence as England aim to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back up and running with a victory.

He said: "I just hope that, if I'm selected on Friday, I can show everyone what I can do in the game.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me to get into the team and I've been patient and waited a long time for this.

"This is what I've been waiting for all of my career since I was seven, to play for England, so hopefully, we can get the three points.

"There are a lot of quality defenders in the England set-up and whoever puts on the shirt will do a fantastic job.”

Hodgson’s men are over-whelming favourites to clock up an impressive win against the minnows, but Walker refuses to be drawn into any complacency ahead of the game, regardless of the opposition.

He added: "I think it will be about being professional and doing the basics well.

"We have to show them respect. Everybody says it's going to be an easy game but for me, I'm going to treat it as though I was playing anyone whether that was Real Madrid, Manchester United or San Marino.

"I will prepare the same and put my whole into it.”
