England midfielder plays 63 minutes for Arsenal's youngsters
Jack Wilshere finally returned to action with Arsenal on Monday after 14 months out with injury.
The midfielder, who missed the whole of last season with the Gunners, played for 63 minutes as their Under-21s side went down 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion.
The 20-year-old's last competitive outing was for England in their Euro 2012 Qualifier against
Switzerland at Wembley. It was his fifth appearance at senior international level.
However, an ankle injury suffered in a friendly against New York Red Bulls on 31 July 2011 kept him sidelined for over a year until his return at the Hawthorns.
Wilshere showed flashes of quality during his hour on the pitch, and he almost provided the opening goal when he played a reverse pass through to England U19s midfielder
Nico Yennaris. His shot was saved, though, and the rebound from Josh Rees was cleared from the line.
Wilshere was replaced by Swedish youngster Kristoffer Olsson, but his return will be encouraging for both Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson alike.
