The Chelsea midfielder was voted England Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005
Frank Lampard was the first two-time winner of the England Player of the Year award.
The midfielder was voted the fans’ favourite in both 2004 and 2005, capping an impressive 24 months for the Chelsea legend.
Upon winning the award the first time, he said: "This award means a lot to me.
“It’s an honour that fans up and down the country think that highly of me."
In 2004 Lampard scored six goals in 13 England games, earning him the majority of the votes (40 per cent) ahead of Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
At Euro 2004, he forged a strong partnership with Gerrard in the centre of midfield from where Lampard found the net against France, Croatia and Portugal. And in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, he continued his exploits in front of goal with strikes away in Austria and against Wales at Old Trafford.
In 2005, Jose Mourinho led Chelsea to their first top flight title in 50 years, with Lampard an inspirational figure for the Blues.
And he maintained his form for England, too, scoring the winner against Poland that secured a place at the following year’s World Cup Finals.
Such was Lampard’s impressive 2005 that not only was he voted the England Player of the Year for the second time in a row, he also finished runner-up to Ronaldinho in both the World and European Footballer of the Year awards.
Lampard said at the time: “Coming second in the FIFA World Player of the Year Award was a massive achievement because that is voted for by international managers and captains, while the England Player of the Year comes from the fans that follow you and watch you every game.
“They are the two groups of people that you want to impress the most.”
