England Rugby captain Chris Robshaw selects his football Player Of The Year
Few sportsmen understand the unique pressure that comes with captaining their country, so it is perhaps no surprise that Chris Robshaw is full of admiration for Steven Gerrard.
For Robshaw, the RBS 6 Nations is the immediate challenge with the 2015 Rugby World Cup the long term goal, while Gerrard has his sights set on Rio and the football World Cup a year earlier.
But 2012 has been a wonderful year for both of them as they enjoyed some memorable moments - Robshaw leading his team to that incredible victory over New Zealand in December and Gerrard passing the century mark of international appearances.
And that longevity is just one of the reasons Robshaw believes Gerrard is England's Player Of The Year, with the Liverpool midfielder's ability to lead by example also vital to his side.
That was demonstrated by Gerrard's displays during England's run to the European Championship quarter finals, when he was superb as the Three Lions lost on penalties to Italy in Kiev.
"Gerrard is brilliant," said Robshaw. "For any player to get over 100 caps for their country they have to be special.
"You look at the way he leads his team and he just seems the ultimate professional, leading by driving the standards up. He goes out there and performs every time.
"Every international player wants to produce their best in tournaments.
"That's when you want to put your hand up and he went out there and delivered."
