Roy Hodgson, Alex Horne and Adrian Bevington speak to FATV about trip to Soccerex in Rio

Roy Hodgson was joined by FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Club England Managing Director Adrian Bevington in Brazil this week, as the Soccerex Global Convention took place in Rio.

The England Manager was joined by Brazilian legend Zico on a panel at the conference to discuss international football, with Horne and Bevington also speaking on separate matters such as goal-line technology, media and World Cup base-camps.

And the trio also used their time in Brazil's second city to make further plans for next summer's return with England and potential World Cup bases for 2014.

Hodgson told FATV: "We've been here for Soccerex, but I'm also here for The FA to once again look at some hotel and training ground possibilities with a view to not only our game next summer when we come to Rio to play Brazil, but more importantly for the World Cup in 2014.

"It's only my second trip, but it's The FA's fourth or fifth trip.

"We're putting in as much work as we can to make sure that we've done all the groundwork, so we know exactly what we would like."

Bevington also confirmed that Rio would be the place where England would like to base themselves in the World Cup, should qualification be secured over the next year.

He said: "We've narrowed down to where we want to be and it's almost certainly Rio if we can make it work, subject to qualification.

"It's really important that as an FA and a national association, that the England team make really strong efforts to reach out and engage with the international audience, with the Brazilian media and authorities."

After speaking at Soccerex on the topic of goal-line technology, Horne also took the chance to have a look at some of the potential bases for England along with Hodgson and Bevington and was impressed with what he saw.

"Rio is one of the central cities so really feels like one of the options for us," he added. 

"So it's been useful to have a look at the training facilities and hotels to get a feel of how it could fit together."
