Having picked up his first international cap against no lesser opponents than Brazil in 2009, Tom Huddlestone looked to be making all the right moves as Fabio Capello began to finalise his World Cup squad for South Africa.

Solid performances for Spurs in the Premier League demonstrated the depth to the central midfielder’s game, with his range of passing and distance shooting clearly proving of interest to the England Manager.

He was part of the 30-man provisional squad named by Capello ahead of the World Cup and played in the friendlies against Mexico and Japan prior to the tournament. He claimed his full international debut against the Japanese before coming off at half-time to make way for Steven Gerrard.

Despite his best efforts, he was not selected for the final 23 to go to South Africa but will no doubt be looking to add to his international tally in 2011.
