The young Arsenal full-back has seen his stock rise considerably in the past two seasons, having established himself within the Gunners first team and making his Senior debut for the Three Lions.

It was in 2009 when Gibbs made his breakthrough at club level and in the same year he appeared an impressive 14 times for England’s Under-21s, helping them to the Final of the European Championship in Sweden.

His assured performances for Stuart Pearce’s side led to talk about a possible step up to Fabio Capello’s squad but a fractured metatarsal put paid to any chance of being involved during the remainder of the 2009-10 season.

Gibbs did not allow the set-back to get him down, however, and when Capello rung the changes following England’s World Cup campaign, the youngster stepped into the breach – coming on for former Arsenal favourite Ashley Cole in England’s 2-1 victory over Hungary.

His confidence and composure on the international stage saw him take a place on the bench as England began their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign against Bulgaria and Switzerland before making his full debut in the friendly against France at Wembley.
