Few players who did not register a goal in 2010 will have come closer to scoring than Frank Lampard. First he missed a penalty in the World Cup warm-up against Japan in Graz, then suffered a huge dose of bad luck in South Africa including a goal that crossed the line against Germany. In the same game Lampard later rattled the crossbar and did everything but score at the World Cup.

A consistent performer over many years, Lampard is a two-time winner of the Player of the Year award, and the Chelsea midfielder added a further seven caps this year, playing in all four of England's World Cup matches.

Injury at the start of the season prevented Lampard from a higher tally, and also saw him miss out on a number of games for his club, but back to fitness at the turn of the year he will be an integral part of the qualification campaign for Euro 2012.
