Another newly-built venue for the 2010 World Cup, the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane is inspired by the region’s iconic Baobab tree.
The largely concrete construction has ‘tree’ structures throughout the design, with the roof being supported by ‘trunks’.
The 45,000-seater stadium is situated in the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex which is approximately 5km from the city centre and is named after a political activist who was born and raised in Polokwane.
