Route to the finals
Korea DPR qualified for South Africa 2010 the hard way. Beginning their Asia zone campaign in October 2007 with a convincing Preliminary Round victory over Mongolia, they went on to finish second, on goal difference, behind Korea Republic in the Third Round.

Progression into the Fourth Round saw them face Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates and, once again, neighbours Korea Republic.

Losses away to Iran and Korea Republic left the Chollima in a decisive final match encounter with Saudi Arabia in Riyadh. The 0-0 stalemate proved enough to secure Korea DPR second place ahead of Saudi Arabia on the slimmest of goal difference margins.

Manager
It could be a big ask of Manager Kim Jong-Hun to replicate the outcome of his country’s last World Cup appearance in 1966, where they reached the quarter-finals.

However, to underestimate them would be disrespectful of what Jong-Hun managed to achieve during qualifying.

The Manager is sure to have his charges well drilled and operating as a tight unit and having conceded only seven goals in their entire 16-match qualifying campaign, they certainly won’t be rolling over in South Africa.

Player watch
With only three of Korea DPR’s 23-man World Cup squad playing their domestic football outside of their home country, there are no internationally recognised stars among the Chollima. But with a lack of star names comes a more definite united approach and Kim Jong-Hun’s men are sure to provide commitment and desire aplenty.
